transition dialogues

This is a very interesting interview from Rob Hopkins' website with the architect Christopher Alexanderhttp://transitionculture.org/2010/12/23/exclusive-to-transition-culture-an-interview-with-christopher-alexander/ I also recently found this set of video segments from YouTube quite revelatory - it is an undergraduate lecture delivered at the University of Colorado by…See More

An inspiring story in the latest Ecologist newsletter about making solar hot water heaters from old plastic bottles and tetra packs. And if you can speak Portuguese (or even of you can't) I have attached the instruction leaflet.

Home Grown Community Owned

Hello,Sorry - the bad penny has turned up again with another project! First of all: thanks to everyone who contributed to the Climate Change project, especialy to Sky for his heroic efforts in pulling it all together. The work of the nine participating communities has been of interest to a number of statutory and 'green' organisations and so further work is rolling out from the project. A collegue of mine is running a programme to support local food projects where people join together to…See More

farm cottage visit

This is just to let all interested parties know that we had a superb visit with Paul and Celia at Farm Cottage (Transition N Cornwall) on Sunday June 6th & highly recommend others in our group responding to future invitations, as they have a lot to share.  I shall expand on this at our next meeting and also update everyone on our visit to Delabole and to the wind turbine in Barnstaple last winter...Paul says he would be very happy to come to Hartland and tell us about their experience in…See More

REPORT FROM PARISH COUNCIL MEETING 27TH MAY 2010

Dear FriendsPlease find below the notes I took at the Parish Council meeting held on 27th May 2010, with regard to the proposed housing development in the village. I hope they are an accurate reflection of the deliberations. As this meeting raised more questions than it answered, and as Brian Redwood has offered to meet our group on a Saturday evening in June, I think it would be wise to do this so that we can discuss these issues further. I will let you know as soon as I can get a date from…See More

Sky, would the funders gudelines allow the money to be allocated for the web funding in advance and held until July? That would seem reasonable.

What you've done, with the assistance of David with materials is quite interesting. I've been amazed at how the little wind turbine whizzes around furiously as I pass by on my walks. It is silent (however, I admit to a hearing loss!) and…

Mushroom magic

"Eben Bayer's inspiration for his 'green' alternative to polystyrene came from growing up on a farm in Vermont in America.

'I was inspired by seeing mushrooms, or mycelium roots, actually holding or gluing the forest floor together,' he told the BBC World Service.

'Then I took a class where we were tasked with developing a new green insulation and my eureka moment was combining the concept of using mushroom roots to hold the… Continue

Agriculture is an undervalued and underestimated climate change tool

Climate Change Solution

Agriculture is an undervalued and underestimated climate change tool that could be one of the most powerful strategies in the fight against global warming. Nearly 30 years of Rodale Institute soil carbon data show conclusively that improved global terrestrial stewardship--that specifically includes 21st Century regenerative agricultural practices--can be the most effective currently available strategy for mitigating CO2 emissions. Read it and see the future of… Continue
